GALAPAGOS HAWK

The Galapagos hawk is an endemic species of the islands, and it is related to its North American cousins.  It is a natural scavenger that feeds on small animals, such as rodents, baby sea turtles, snakes, locusts, giant centipedes, etc.  Its plumage is dark brown with white and orange patches.  It has an excellent eyesight that can spot its prey from far away distances.

They build their nests in low trees, and both parents take care of the offspring.  They are highly sensitive to disturbances in their nest, if they feel disrupted, they may abandon the nest, leaving their eggs behind.  They are at the top of the food chain in the Galapagos helping to maintain a healthy ecosystem.

They can be spotted in all our itineraries of the Galapagos Legend and the Corals.
