GUAYAQUIL

Guayaquil is the biggest city in Ecuador and is the main port.  It is a modern city with a touch of historical sites that are located in the center.  It has the Guayas River crossing through the “Malecon 2000,” a walk-path where restaurants and bars are always serving visitors.

The Rotonda Monument is a local symbol representing freedom in the city continuing to the picturesque “Barrio las Peñas.” It is a historical neighborhood built from the Spanish conquer which nowadays is a precinct filled with colorful houses that take you up more than 300 stairs up to the Santa Ana Hill.  The highest viewing point is an amazing postcard of the entire city next to a classic city’s lighthouse.

The city also offers more natural entertainment; the humid hot climate is home to land iguanas that are the main attraction at the Seminario Park.  Several of these reptiles gather around the park’s benches to be fed by visitors and are ready to be photographed.  There is also the Botanical Garden which has 324 different plant species between ornamental and exotic types.

Museums, cinemas, and good shopping malls are also part of the city’s attractions in its modern districts.  The typical “ceviche” is a great dish to try, it is a worthy example of how delicious Ecuadorian cuisine is.
