QUITO

The cultural heritage of Quito, Ecuador’s capital, is of such importance, that it was the world’s first city to be declared by the UNESCO as a  “World Heritage Cultural Site” back in 1978.

Located in a valley, it is surrounded by picturesque snow-capped volcanoes that can be appreciated in clear skies and give the city a unique contrast.

Quito showcases the largest and best preserved restored colonial center in Latin America. Churches decorated in sumptuous gold, convents harbored behind hand-carved baroque doors, entire city blocks of Spanish-style villas boasting charming geranium-filled balconies and hidden courtyards, make this city an amazing place.

There are also other attractions such as the Middle of the World Complex where the Equatorial line passes through. They are situated at 0° 0’0″ of latitude, from which Ecuador derives its name, divides the planet into the northern and southern hemisphere.

To be closer to the sky, there is also the cable car ‘TeleferiQo’ which is one of the highest cable cars in the world.  It will go as high as 3,945 mt above sea level. From the top, there is a panoramic view of the entire valley where the city is located is stunning.  Complimenting the scenery with a sunset will be one of the best pictures of the city.
